Pegasus concert (choir and soloist) – Winchelsea
July 4, 2015 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
This year we mark 600 years since the battle of Agincourt, and four hundred years after that, an even more decisive battle between the French and the English took place only about 200km away from Agincourt, this time in Waterloo.
We are delighted to return to Winchelsea, to sing a programme of music that marks these two great historical events. A number of the composers featured in the concert were born in the century following Agincourt and in the vicinity of both battle sites, in the strategically important and much fought over area of northern France, by the modern border with Belgium. Our programme is a mix of secular and sacred music from France and England, including the beautiful “Nesciens mater virgo virum” by Mouton, and the stirring “The Twelve” by William Walton, set to poetry by W.H. Auden.
The concert is the first in the inaugural Winchelsea Arts concert series; for more details of this, and the other concerts in the series, see the Winchelsea Arts website http://
